baby issy

Ems was so happy to get to hold her new cousin at Easter dinner. She was very serious the entire time and didn't want to let go. I can't blame her since I got a nice chunk of time holding her as well. Ems has been asking for another baby in our family ever since Issy was born. But when I tell her that she will always be my baby, she's pretty happy with that.

science fair time

It really feels like spring now that E's had his school choir concert and now science fair. This year he explored what keeps apple slices from turning brown - a common complaint from his own lunch. It's so much fun to go through all the exhibits and see all of the interesting, careful work students are doing. I never participated in a science fair as a student. I like getting to try out these things via E.
E got a great write up from the judge and a bright orange ribbon. Most of the kids complain, but the organizers go with positive reinforcement rather than winners at the fair. I would give E the blue ribbon for sure!

spring music concert

E had his spring choir concert this week. He was a little put out over Em's choice of clothes, but when we got to the concert, we saw many little sisters deciding to use the occasion for formal wear.
Every year, E ends up standing by the same two or three kids - the tall boys in the back. It looks like this year, Michael has a inch up on E as tallest boy.

family prom

Ems was sick and stayed home with her dad, but E and I rocked our friend's 40th birthday party family prom. The theme was Champagne Wishes, and it really felt like a good old fashioned dance. E and I went as the ultimate 70's couple - though he had to add swager with his cool hat. I was zipped into a MONTGOMERY WARDS lemon chiffon vintage number from one of our Miss American parties in the previous millenium. Good music, fun friends, and a ballon arch! What a night!

the babe of all babes

What fun we had over the weekend at Baby Issy's shower! Lots of ladies, babies, and family! Em wanted to hold her new cousin very much but recent creepy crawlies in our family made that a big no no. Maybe at Easter she'll get her chance. We are all so happy Isabella is in the world!

ballerina girl

Our sweet ballerina took her first class this weekend. She loved every minute - from the teacher's soft voice to the pretty music to, of course, the tutu. The super fun play structure at the park nearby doesn't hurt either.

Another season, another swim session. Go Ems!

new knitting

We have a new little teeny weeny beany girl in the family - Jeff's cousins just had a sweet little girl name Isabella. The baby shower is coming up this weekend so Emme and I put together a basket of some of our favorite picture books and board books, and I got inspired for a trio of hats in graduated sizes - teeny, weeny, and beanie.
Can't wait to meet the newest bambino!

more back blogging - abelskiver fest 2010

The Cedros clan recently hosted the annual abelskiver fest. All points of Scandinavia were represented in the kitchen. I defected from my Finnish husband's triple lemon threats for Auntie B's black truffle butter with reggiano and chives pictured below - they were amazing! Evan voted for his dad's cheeseburger abelsivers and Ems was an equal opportunity eater.

scenes from spring break

a little back blogging never hurt anyone . . .

We spent spring break at the Oregon coast with Nana and Jonesie. Lots of beach walking, reading, sleeping, and lego building. Whenever the rain stopped, we ran outside for a little beach time. Tillamook ice cream, skip-bo, and really good books were ever present as well.

one season ends and another begins

I wish I could say that winter is the season ending and spring starting, but instead in Oregon the rain marches on and we skip from basketball to baseball season. Here are a couple of pictures from E's last game. Tall House, Double Cup coached his team again this year and gave out hefty medals to the whole team. I was so impressed the way THDC had something perfect to say about each player's contribution to the team. All of the parents beamed, especially me.

new knitting

I hadn't knit myself anything in years - everything I was making was for the kidlets or gifts. But the combination of color, a deconstructed cowl, and the interesting front panel had me running to the yarn store. I'm pretty happy with this project - though I am not much of a vest person. For this green love, I can work a vest once in awhile.

a little Oregon tourism

We hadn't been to Multnomah Falls in years so we headed out last weekend for a little fresh air and misty mist. Ev and I tried to hike to the top of the falls but made it only halfway. Ems was a little impatient waiting for us and my pretty but ineffectual maryjanes weren't up for it. I promised a repeat hike.
We heard at least four different languages spoken - such a gathering point for Oregonians and tourist.
