guess who's here?
Hurrah! Nana and Jonesie are here for their Labor Day visit. They jumped right in with our kidlets.
Jonesie sold ice cream from E's "ice cream truck." E and I turned our air conditioner box into a class A treat truck - he even offers an "Alameda special" - 2 for 1 on Tuesdays!
Nana and Little Miss had cuddle time. We are off to the beach for a long weekend of wave jumping, good wine and plenty of magazines and books. yeah.

little sis, big bro pictures
We got some great photos in a brief photoshoot starring the lovely tees Marfie got us. I came up with the brillant rule that you can't play with your new toys after the first day you get them until you take your "thank you" picture - ha! That's one way to get E to agree to picture taking. He took to it quite well and was the most agreeable subject.

boyfriend material
We've identified a potential boyfriend. L.A. -based Duncan - aka the Dunk - came by with his parents for dinner last night. Born just six days before Em, Dunk progressed their relationship rather quickly.
The met. Dunk made his intial over the shoulder move. They had a quick snog. Then he pushed her away. Probably not unlike how it might be in 16 years.

the cat who would be a baby
I got up early this morning to do some gardening while everyone else slept. Mara followed me from plant to plant keeping me company while I listened to "The News From Lake Wobegon" on my ipod (what a sweet way to start the day) so I rewarded her with a lovely brushing - which she stood for about three whole minutes. Love needs to be on her terms, not mine - she is a cat after all.

i care about animals`
Last night at dinner E asked, "Is this steak?" When I told him it was, he said, "Well, I don't eat meat. I care about animals." I asked him if he meant he didn't want any meat at all - like chicken, beef, pork - and then got more specific - hotdogs, hamburgers, sausage. E said, "Yes, I am not going to eat meat."
A couple of seconds later after pondering a bit, he asked, "Is bacon meat?" I said yes, that it came from pigs. He thought a moment and said, "I care about bacon more than pigs so I won't eat any meat except bacon.
His school has lots of vegetarian kids so I think he's experimenting a bit - but I totally understand his reluctance to give up bacon.

block party success
So the party came off really well. Lots of food, kid fun like the jumpy castle, face painting, crafts, and the local fire house came with the big truck. After the party, we reassembled up at one house for lots of wine and pizza. I woke up this morning with my jammy pants on inside out and backwards. I call that kind of night a success.

to do or not to do
I've been contemplating a big change in my life. Some of you might know how big a deal it was to get the "faux bang" cut into my hair - well now I am considering something much more dramatic! Case in point to your right.I go back to work the day after Labor Day and I thought this cut looked very fresh and fun and might be just the ticket to reinvigorating myself to return to the workplace.
But I need serious opinions! Do I dare? I love my hair as is but this cut just seems so pdxpishposh. Please tell me honestly what you think!
Oh - and I already promised Marfie I wouldn't wear this dress so no need to comment on that!
